Celebrities Are Amplifying Black Women's Voices With #ShareTheMicNow

After musicians like Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez offered their Instagram account for Black Lives Matter leaders, a group of disruptors, including Bozoma Saint John, Luvvie Ajayi Jones, Glennon Doyle, and Stacey Bendet, are launching #ShareTheMicNow. Through the initiative, Black women will be speaking on the accounts of notable white women, including actors, athletes, politicians, and C-level executives.

The #ShareTheMicNow campaign hopes to showcase the work Black women are doing to bring about change in their respective industries. But a statement from the 'ShareTheMicNow' campaign hopes that the Instagram takeovers are just the first step and that the conversations spark action and activism.

Through the conversations, the organisers want to amplify voices that have gone unheard, even though many have been shouting for their respective causes.

"Today, more than ever, it is necessary that we create a unifying action to centre Black women’s lives, stories, and calls to action," a statement from the organisers reads. "We need to listen to Black women."

Through the conversations, the team hopes that Black and white women everywhere will have the same conversation and foster relationships built on trust and understanding.

The full list of Black women includes:

Alencia Johnson, Alexa Idama, Angelica Ross, Austin Channing Brown, Bozoma Saint John, Brittney Cooper, Candace Marie, Cari Champion, Christina Rice, Deesha Dyer, Devi Brown, Elaine Welteroth, Elle Hearns, Eunique Jones Gibson, Fresco Steez, Gia Peppers, Ibtihaj Muhammad, Jessica O. As expected, I woke up to a feed full of black posts. While I respect and deeply appreciate this show of solidarity, and while there is no one "right" way to protest, the leaders of this movement that you desire to support are asking that you stop using the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter because it is wiping out the Black voices that need to be amplified-today and EVERY day. It is also blocking important and necessary pathways for communication and activism to continue. . It is also distracting from driving people to the polls-today is the #SUPERTUESDAY of postponed elections in many states. Elections for the Presidential primaries race are taking place right now in: . New Mexico . South Dakota . Washington, D.C. . Montana . Indiana . Maryland . Pennsylvania . Rhode Island . So, if you choose to Black out your grid (the lowest of low hanging fruit in a time like this), I would love for you to also share in your captions what your activism looks like in real life, offline? What you are dedicated to doing, reading, donating, and organizing today? If you or someone you love lives in one of these states, have you/they voted today? Who are you talking to about this issue? How are those conversations going? . This is not an indictment on anyone. This is a call to action. When we know better, we do better. Let's do better, fam. 💌 Here are hashtags for allies to use in solidarity: #BlackLIFEmatters #elevatemelanatedvoices

They'll be speaking with:

Abby Wambach, Ali Krieger, Arianna Huffington, Ashley Graham, Ashley Judd, Ashlyn Harris, Barb Schmidt, Brandi Carlile, Brené Brown, Busy Philipps, Cameron Esposito, Chelsea Handler, Cheryl Strayed, Chrissy Metz, Debra Messing, Diane von Furstenberg, Elizabeth Gilbert, Esther Perel, Glennon Doyle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Hilary Swank, Jen Hatmaker, Jenny Mollen, Jessica Seinfeld, Julia Roberts, Julianne Hough, Kathryn Budig, Katie Couric, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Kourtney Kardashian, Liz Plank, Mandy Moore, Megan Rapinoe, Melissa Urban, Michelle Monaghan, Nina Tame, Sara Bareilles, Sarah McBride, Sarah Paulson, Sarah Sophie Flicker, Seane Corn, Selma Blair, Sophia Bush, Stacey Bendet, and Sue Bird

Over the weekend, Lizzo, Lady Gaga, and Selena Gomez hosted Black Lives Matter thought leaders on their respective accounts, including @blackvisionscollective, Black Futures Lab's Alicia Garza — who happens to be one of the co-creators of Black Lives Matter — and the National Lawyers Guild.
