When teen drama Outer Banks dropped earlier this year, we instantly fell in love the Gossip Girl cross Riverdale-esque series. Now, Netflix made the return official, sharing a video that featured various cast members from the series celebrating the news. “This is not a drill,” the streaming service wrote of the announcement on Instagram.
The show takes place on North Carolina's idyllic Outer Banks: sunny and beachy but with, apparently, a major class divide. You're either super rich or working two jobs in this town, per narrator John Booker Rutledge (Chase Stokes). The central characters in this story are in the latter category, which is why when they find out John's missing father somehow acquired $400 million in gold, all hell breaks loose. What transpires is an all-out treasure hunt, mixed with saucy romance and clash collisions between the Outer Banks's wealthy and working class.

There's no word yet on when the new season will air, and with production on Netflix shows halted because of the pandemic, timelines for premieres are in limbo.
Fans of the series can get ready for more seasons too, with showrunner Jonas Pate previously revealing to Entertainment Weekly about the show's intention to tell a story that lasted four to five seasons. “Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons. We've sort of long-arced it out pretty far."
“Now that the audience knows our characters and the baseline engine of the mystery is going, we just feel like we have a lot more good twists and turns left to explore, so we're excited for more,” he added.
