Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty Dedicates $100 Million To Mental Health Services

To celebrate her 28th birthday, Selena Gomez is giving back. According to Billboard, Gomez announced that her makeup company, Rare Beauty, is launching the Rare Impact Fund, which will set out to raise $100 million and provide underserved communities with mental health resources.

Gomez outlined exactly how the company would do it: one percent of Rare Beauty's annual sales — in addition to funds raised by partners — will go to the Rare Impact Fund. If everything goes according to plan, the company will raise the $100 million goal over the next 10 years. Billboard notes that if Rare Beauty reaches that milestone, it would be "one of the largest known funds supporting mental health from a corporate entity."

Our goal with the Rare Impact Fund is to raise an ambitious $100 million over the next 10 years to help increase access to mental health resources. How? Starting with our very first sale, 1% of annual Rare Beauty sales will go directly to the Rare Impact Fund. But that's not all. We're committed to raising funds with numerous philanthropic partners to reach our goal. The Rare Impact Fund will help support the local, national, and global organizations that have a direct impact on the well-being of this amazing community. Together, we are better, and because we know we can't do this alone, we've established the Rare Beauty Mental Health Council comprised of leading mental health experts and professionals with lived experience to help steer our impact efforts. To learn more about our resources and support, and to meet the members of our Mental Health Council, head to our IG stories! #RareImpact

"I'm so grateful to be surrounded by a team that's helped make the Rare Impact Fund a reality. Since the brand's inception, we wanted to find a way to give back to our community and further support people who needed access to mental health services, which have had a profound impact on my life," Gomez said in a statement. "Rare Beauty is focused on helping people feel more connected to one another and less alone in the world. The Rare Impact Fund will make a direct impact on many lives and, ultimately, make a difference in the world. I'm proud of the work we’ve begun to do with our partners to offer these services to anyone who needs support."

To ensure that efforts are being led by experts, Rare Beauty created the Rare Beauty Mental Health Council. The council includes members from universities, organizations such as the Sad Girls Club and the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, and companies like Sephora and YouTube.

"Our goal is ambitious. We want to raise $100 million for mental health in the next 10 years," Scott Friedman, CEO of Rare Beauty, said. "With the launch of the Rare Impact Fund, we will create one of the largest philanthropic efforts focused on mental health in the world. The funds will go toward increasing access to mental health services, particularly for underserved communities."

Gomez has been open about her mental health in the past and revealed her bipolar diagnosis with Miley Cyrus on her Instagram Live series, Bright Minded.

"Recently, I went to one of the best mental hospitals in [...] America, McClean Hospital, and I discussed that after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar," Gomez said during her appearance on the show. "And so when I got to know more information, it actually helps me. It doesn't scare me once I know it."
